We interview clients to gather information, assess the need, and issue assistance. We have three full-time employees and one volunteer with four offices doing casework.

Heart to God, Hand to Man

The manner in which need for assistance is verified and the spirit in which help is given are at the heart of Army service. The compassion and understanding shown in an emergency may open the way for assistance with deep-seated problems and long-term deprivation. Needs may be revealed for counseling, placement, day care, rehabilitation, referral, or other help.

With heart to God and hand to man, The Salvation Army strives to meet the basic needs of all who come seeking help. Taking immediate care of the basic human needs of food, shelter, clothing and safety is an important first step in the development of a more positive and permanent change in the people we help.

It is essential to note that at no time may participation in denominational activities be required as a condition for receiving needed services. All service given in the name of Jesus for meeting human needs and caring for hurting persons is in and of itself valued and is a spiritual ministry.

Counseling
This is nonprofessional peer counseling done by staff on a case-by-case short-term basis.

Job Training
We are a job training site for the Partners-In-Careers, a federally funded job training program. These individuals generally work as receptionists, intake workers, and warehouse workers.

Disaster Relief
Responding to man-made or natural disaster situations with the material, financial, and spiritual support to alleviate human suffering.

Volunteer Jobs
We offer opportunities for people to serve their community as interviewers, receptionist, data entry workers, food handlers, warehouse assistants, drivers, and holiday bell ringers.

Summer Camp
Giving children a chance to learn more about themselves, others, their environment, and God.

Back to School
We provide school supplies, new shoes, and haircuts for children prior to their return to school each fall.

Off-Site Lodging
In cooperation with the Emergency Shelter Clearing house and other homeless programs, we provide lodging to individuals and families who cannot stay in public shelters for reasons related to health, behavior, or over-crowding.

Rent/Mortgage Assistance
We offer major financial aid to low-income families who are homeless or near homeless to secure permanent housing for a minimum of 30 days.

Prescription Assistance
We help individuals who have medical conditions that require a prescription they cannot afford and when they have exhausted all other options.

Transportation Aid
We help struggling individuals with local and long-distance transportation needs. Some must relocate to another community but lack the resources to get there. Others need automobile fuel or bus tickets for employment or medical appointments.

Emergency Food Boxes
We provide 3-5 day supplies of nutritious food for families in need. This is the most common form of assistance requested by clients. This is also the most volunteer intensive area of our work.

Open Table
We offer bread, pastries, and other surplus items on shelves in our food room lobby. These are available on the honor system.
