CREAM - short for the Computer Reuse/Recycling and Marketing program - has been accepting computers from county residents at no charge since 2003. Usable computers are refurbished, reformatted with new software by Clark College students and then donated to the Salvation Army for distribution to qualified residents. Unusable computers are disassembled for recycling or safe disposal within the United States. CREAM also accepts unwanted televisions; hazardous components of the picture tubes are recycled or disposed of safely.

The CREAM program is the result of an innovative partnership between the Clark County Public Works Department, Clark County Sheriff's Office, City of Vancouver, Clark College, Columbia Resource Company, and the Salvation Army.

Clark County residents may bring their home computers or television sets to specially advertised collection events, or to the designated CREAM donation sites listed below. Non-residents, businesses and institutions are not eligible to use the collection events or site. Businesses and institutions can call (360) 397-2212 for their service options.

Charges: Free to Clark County residents. Charges may apply to businesses or non-county residents; call (360) 696-8186 for more information.

Accepts: Answering machines, CD's, calculators, camcorders, cassette tapes, computers, DVD's, fax machines, keyboards, mice, monitors, phones, printers, satellite dishes, scanners, software, speakers, stereos, TV's, typewriters, VCR's, video games, video tapes

Does Not Accept: Copy machines, microwaves, toasters, hair dryers or other appliances.

To see if you qualify for a refurbished computer, call The Salvation Army, Family Services office at (360) 694-9503.

If you have questions or would like more information about the CREAM program, please call the City of Vancouver Solid Waste Services at (360) 696-8186.
